    Yep, very very necessary.

If your pH, ammonia and nitrates are at ok levels, you can hold off doing a 1/3 water change, but as soon as they change from their norm, a water change is required.

To save testing all the time, and to have optimum aquarium health – do a weekly 1/3 water change.[Read more]

Your pond gets a water change when it rains, no doubt.

yes you still need to change the water even with a good filter, but maybe less than you would with a cheap one.

We have a sump under the tank that filters ours. I think because it is such a large volume of water (~1000L), we can get away with less changes. Plus I’m a bit lazy too.

    My pond never changes water
I think the more fish you have in your aquarium
    the more cleaning you need

Hi, is it still necessary to change the water if you have a filter system that is working well?

I thought enough plants would do the cleaning job
    maybe I am just lazy
better I stay with my pond
with green frogs , salamander , serpent
and loads of other animals around

    Update!
I changed the background and added some more live plants.
    I now have 1 x anubias on a rock, 2 x amazon swords, 1 x red ozelot, and 1 x some other kind of sword – I don’t know the name!

Anyway.. just a quick piccy update :)

Still waiting to buy a new camera.

+ Plus – some pics of my lovely little Bolivian Butterflies.

Roland – what mg means is do a partial water change.
Most aquariums require at least a 1/3 water change weekly to maintain the correct water parameters (mg must have had this tank a while, and is settled into a once a month partial change now – however it is very important for a new tank to have at least weekly!).
Where the fish live in the…[Read more]

This is our tank – 8ft. Maintenence is not really an issue I don’t think. I only change the water say once a month or so.

Magnetised scrubber for the glass, and some live bacteria stresszyme each week. My fish aren;t large – largest are maybe 6inches long.

Very nice aquarium. I am very interested in one as well. I visited the local store and found a round aquarium about 5 feet tall and I got really interested with it.

The thing is, they are suggesting big fishes for it but I do not want to jump in too quickly. My main problem is maintenance. I do not have any problem with spending on…[Read more]

Clown loaches and Angels, same as us. African Cichlids too.

Clown loaches are very kooky fish.

Here is a pic of my new 200L aquarium! I have had it setup, cycled and running for just over a month now.
It is the first time in my tank owning life that I have decided to have a properly planted aquarium. At the moment, I only have one Anubia, and the rest are bunches that will die off soon. But soon enough, my tank should be teeming with…[Read more]
