Lawn Sprigs

There are two ways that you can plant lawn sprigs by hand:

  • You can broadcast, or stolonize the sprigs over prepared soil at a rate of roughly 5 to 10 bushels per 1,000 square feet.
  • After this, cover with 1/4 to 1/2 inch of soil, and press the sprigs into the soil by rolling.
  • Or, you can plant the lawn sprigs (sprigging) in a series of shallow furrows. the furrowa ahould be 1 - 2 inches deep and 6 to 12 inches apart. This will depend on the grass variety and the lawn sprig producers spacing recommendations.
  • Plant your  sprigs in furrows, end-to-end at 4 - 6 inch intervals. Cover the sprigs with soil.
  • Be sure that a portion of each lawn sprig remains exposed to light. the dieal for this is about one quarter of the length of the sprigg.
  • Then lightly roll the planted area so as to press them into the soil.
