Preparing your lawn - Levelling

When a soil is referred to as loamy, it usually means that the soil contains a mixture of humus, sand and clay. A good loamy soil should contain, in addition to the clay particles, an ample supply of humus with sufficient sand to prevent it setting hard under the most harsh conditions.

There are, however, several definitions of loamy soil. Those containing plenty of sand are known as sandy loams; those with an abundance of fibrous materials as fibrous loarns; and those with a large amount of clay, as heavy loams.
