Although this is my Gold Fish pond.

It would probably qualify as a water garden.

This picture Has been removed for down sizing.

I had always wanted a water feature, even bought a pump in anticipation. We have been here 25 yrs and last spring - 05, I finally dug the hole. I had forgotten with all the renovation of our old house that the builders had used this area to put waste fill. Many months and strange scrap later I hit the last snag. A long piece of metal that was entangled in tree roots, luckily I had just bought an angle grinder. Although I'm a girl I love tools, and this was my first go and it worked. I bought a quality pond liner and surrounded it with sandstone rocks. Mum gave me miniature papyrus and I purchased - pacific blue eye fish, nardoo, duckweed, small native lilies etc. The real joy for me has been after 1 yr I now have frogs and the 2nd batch of spawn. We also breed lots of different coloured dragonflies. We already had a healthy population of waterskinks, and whole little ecosystem seems to be working well. I had to make a pond rake to keep up with the overgrowth of water weed, but it works well.

Well I don't know yet for certain what type of frogs they are, but I think one is probably brown marsh. Last night I think I heard 3 different calls. We still have the first batch of tadpoles and are waiting to see, they are in the sunroom and in a polystyrene box outside my front door as well. The ones that get sun are growing quicker. Iam reliving my childhood with tadpoles, it's better than tv.

    Hi strawberry,

If you want some red eyed, green tree frogs,

    They only relocate as tadpoles.

There are lots around the water garden.

Yours for the asking.Life is for living ! Don't sleep through it .

I'd adore some of your frogs but it is too far away. We now have our third batch of spawn, and my daughter said the new ones are different to the first. We have given some to the kid's school science room and another friend's child who built a pond too. At night it sounds like a jungle in the backyard, it's great ! Thanks for your offer, you are really lucky to have those.

Ginger the environmentalist and weed spotter in me sees some
Eichhornia crassipes or water hyacinth in your pond. Its
a noxious weed in Queensland, actually in every state in Australia
for that matter, and you really should get rid of it ASAP.

I sometimes wonder just why people keep growing these serious
environmental weeds in ponds and tanks despite them being noxious
weeds for well over 20 years now. The main threat to the environment
is when these plants are dumped in rivers or lakes and if everyone
did the right thing we wouldn't need to spend millions every year
cleaning our lakes and rivers of these pesty weeds.

    :(

They must be happy fish, how big is your pond? Mine is about 4x2 metres and deep in the middle. We are breeding tadpoles, and lots of beautiful dragonflies. The pacific blue eye fish looked pregnant but we never saw any young.

Hi Marty, I'll try to do a picture soon. In the meantime, some of the water plants have got a little weedy, and need thinning out - the duck weed and the mini papyrus. I thought rather than getting rid of these plants it would be a good excuse to start an additional pond. We also have lovely water skinks and provided hollow logs and hope they enjoy it too.
