    " ORCHID ".

The back of my land was once a Rainforest till the previous owners turned it into cattle grazing country . Since I have owned it ( 29 years ) , a lot of the old stuff has returned .
One of my favourite things is the native Orchids . Namely the Tongue Orchid .
They are once again in full bloom . Please share my joy .

We have one Tongue Orchid here only because we rescued it from a load of firewood.
The thing that surprises me is that we have a staghorn/elkhorn growing down in the gully, there are also several rainforest trees coming up as well. It surprises me because it is so dry, hot in summer and freezing in winter.Nanango QLD

Hey Ginger...do you think the seeds have stayed dormant that long? Maybe a bird ate one of the berries from nearby forest and sat in that tree and did its business?? Just a thought...:face-monkey:

Even though we live by the ocean, we are lucky enough to have loads of bush around so we get to see native orchids as well as other wildflowers. I have a lot of grevilleas growing in the garden and lots of bird visitors. When we lived in the hills, hubby, son, grandson and myself used to go out looking for native orchids. We have photos of about 30 different varieties from around our property.

They're a ground orchid aren't they?? I had/have one with purple flowers but it died down in winter, do you think they will come back or not??

The under ground root system may survive the frost .
The flower on this Orchid is white .
And they die back during our winter .Life is for living ! Don't sleep through it .
