Interior Design

Good Interior Design is an essential part of any comfortable living space. Just as good landscape and garden design go to make an enjoyable and relaxing outdoor experience, good internal design is also very important.

Interior design is the defined as the process of shaping the experience of interior space, using the manipulation of spatial volume as also by using surface treatment. It draws on many disciplines including aspects of environmental psychology, architecture, furniture design and product design in addition to just plain old decoration.

An interior designer is one who is considered an expert in the field or someone who designs interior spaces as part of their job. Did you know that in some parts of the world, a liscence is required to practice? Talk about the fashion police!

Schools and regulatory bodies have defined it as such: "The professional interior designer is qualified by education, experience, and examination to enhance the function and quality of interior spaces for the purpose of improving the quality of life, increasing productivity, and protecting the health, safety, and welfare of the public.

Essential parts of all internal design styles include concept, color, balance, proportion and function of design. Although styles differentiate their usage of each of these elements, they are all an integral part of the overall feel and look of a space or room.

Designers incorporate the seven elements of design to create and enhance style: form, line, color, mass, shape, texture and pattern. To break it down simply: Form & Function.
